Santorini's Hidden Gem: Uncover Mary's Stunning Rooms!
Santorini's Secrets Unveiled (and Mary's Stunning Rooms!) - A Review That's Actually Real
Okay, so you're searching for Santorini. You're probably picturing those iconic white-washed buildings clinging to the cliffs, the shimmering Aegean Sea, and sunsets that make you weep (in a good way, hopefully!). And you're probably overwhelmed with choices. Well, buckle up, buttercup, because I'm about to tell you about Mary's Stunning Rooms. And trust me, this isn't just another generic travel blog blurb. This is the real deal.
First Impressions (and My Near-Meltdown):
Finding Mary's… was an adventure. Okay, scratch that, it was a quest. Google Maps led me on a merry chase through tiny, winding streets. My rental car (a tiny, slightly beaten-up Fiat) was screaming in protest. I was sweating, the sun was relentless, and I was starting to think I'd booked the wrong place entirely. Then, BAM! There it was. A little oasis of calm, cleverly hidden away. And the view? Oh. My. God. It was as breathtaking as the photos promised. That initial stress melted away faster than a gelato on a Greek summer's day.
(Okay, fine, the "Free Car Park [on-site]" was a godsend. But parking in Santorini is a contact sport. My poor Fiat…)
Rooms: More Than Just a Place to Sleep (and the Perfect Instagram Aesthetic):
Let's be honest, the rooms are stunning. Stunning. Bright, airy, and with a view that could cure any existential dread. I'm talking crisp white linens, comfy beds (finally, a decent night's sleep!), and a balcony practically begging for a glass of local wine (shoutout to the Complimentary Tea and coffee maker - crucial!). They have Air Conditioning that actually works (a must in Santorini!). And, yes, there's Free Wi-Fi in all rooms!. I mean, hello, I need to upload photos of my breakfast. Speaking of which…
(Rant Alert: I hate hotels that skimp on the toiletries! NOT Mary's. You get actual, decent ones. The Hair Dryer worked, too! A small detail, but a huge win.)
But it's more than just the looks. They've thought of the little things. A place to actually, like, work on a Laptop Workspace (though, let's be real, I mostly used it to watch Netflix). Separate shower/bathtub? Check! I can finally relax in a long, hot bath! Bathrobes and Slippers? Feel like royalty! And Blackout Curtains are truly a gift from the gods. No more early sun alarms! (unless, you know, you want to catch that sunrise. Which you absolutely should.)
Additional toilet in the Private bathroom? I'm sold! Because when you're sharing a room and someone gets "food poisoning" there is not enough space and the other is always outside waiting!
(And the constant need for a Mirror to check your outfit! The struggle is real…)
Cleanliness and, Well, Safety (Because Let's Face It, We've All Got Covid Brain):
Okay, this is where Mary's really shines. In these post-pandemic (ish) times, you're always a little on edge. But Mary's made serious effort to ensure a stress-free stay. Anti-viral cleaning products? Check. Rooms sanitized between stays? Yep. Daily disinfection in common areas? Absolutely. They have a First aid kit, a Doctor/nurse on call, and everyone on staff has received full Staff trained in safety protocol. Rooms sanitization opt-out available should you want it (although why would you?) They use Professional-grade sanitizing services (I didn't actually witness them, but the place felt impeccably clean). And they are taking the Physical distancing of at least 1 meter into consideration!
(I'm usually paranoid, but I felt truly safe. Which meant I could concentrate on the important things, like perfecting my tan and eating copious amounts of Greek food.)
Breakfast (Because This is Crucial, People!):
The Breakfast [buffet] was a highlight. Seriously. I’m usually a "grab-and-go granola bar" kind of person, but this was something else. A Breakfast [buffet], with fresh fruits, local pastries, and the best coffee I had during my entire trip. You could sit on the Terrace and enjoy the view while you ate. I did think, it was strange what they are offering, like an Asian breakfast and also Asian cuisine in restaurant. They also provide Alternative meal arrangement if you want something more specific.
(I'm not a "big breakfast" person, but I found myself actually looking forward to it. The Western breakfast was great too. And the croissants… oh, those croissants.)
I loved the addition of Bottle of water and options like Coffee/tea in restaurant, Coffee shop. You can always request Breakfast in room or the Breakfast takeaway service if you are in a hurry!
Dining, Drinking, and Snacking (Because Life's Too Short for Bland Food):
While Mary's Stunning Rooms doesn't have a full-blown restaurant, the Poolside bar is a winner for a quick bite and refreshing drinks. The Bar is well-stocked, and I treated myself to a few Happy hour cocktails – especially the ones with the local spirits. There is also a Poolside bar if you want to drink while you are still wet. I enjoyed the Snack bar. Restaurants are close by, and deliver Room service [24-hour]!
(I had a Happy hour drink watching the sunset once. It was pure magic. I highly recommend it. The A la carte in restaurant is delicious also. The Salad in restaurant was on point!)
Coffee/tea in restaurant, Coffee shop are available if you just want to get started.
(I also loved their simple gesture of a Bottle of water being offered!)
Things to Do (Besides Lounging by the Pool):
Mary's offers a great base for exploring Santorini. They can help you arrange an Airport transfer – a must! - and Taxi service. They have Luggage storage and a fantastic Concierge. They even have a Shrine and a Gift/souvenir shop. Meeting/banquet facilities and Seminars are available too!
(Seriously, the concierge was AMAZING. They sorted out everything, from booking a sunset cruise to recommending the best souvlaki places. A godsend.)
They also have a Swimming pool and Swimming pool [outdoor] with a Pool with view! I could spent all day there.
(There is no Fitness center. But honestly, with all the walking you'll do exploring Santorini, you probably won't need one!)
Getting Around (Because Santorini is… Challenging):
Airport transfer is a must. Car park [free of charge] helped me so much. Valet parking is also available but I think is a bit too much for me. They have Taxi service. Bicycle parking is available too.
(I recommend renting a car – but be prepared for those narrow streets! And please, for the love of all that is holy, learn to reverse park.)
Services and Conveniences (The Little Things That Make a Big Difference):
Air conditioning in public area is a must! Cash withdrawal is available at the Convenience store. Daily housekeeping is also a must-have. They have Doorman, also Dry cleaning, Ironing service, and Laundry service.
For the Kids (If You Have Mini-Humans in Tow):
While I travelled solo, Mary's Stunning Rooms seem pretty family-friendly. They have Babysitting service and Kids facilities, and Kids meal if required, not to mention the Family/child friendly environment.
(I'm not a parent, but I definitely saw families enjoying their stays. The staff seemed genuinely welcoming to kids.)
The Quirks (Because No Place is Perfect):
- The lack of immediate access to nightlife. You'll need a taxi or transportation to get into the main towns for that.
- I heard that some rooms might not have the Exterior corridor.
- There is no Pets allowed
(Honestly, these are tiny quibbles. The positives far outweigh them.)
Final Verdict: Absolutely, Unreservedly, Go!
Mary's Stunning Rooms isn't just a place to stay; it's an experience. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you've stumbled upon a secret, a hidden gem. The rooms are gorgeous, the staff is amazing, the location is perfect (once you've found it!), and the overall vibe is pure bliss. It's clean, safe, comfortable, and offers a perfect blend

Mary Rooms & Santorini: A Love-Hate Relationship (Mostly Love, Let's Be Honest)
Day 1: Arrival & Oia… Or Rather, a Near-Death Experience with a Suitcase
- Morning: Landed in Santorini. Let me tell you, the airport's so small, you practically trip over the baggage handlers. Found Mary Rooms, which, bless Mary, is a charming little place. Cozy, clean, and the view from the balcony? Forget about it. Literally, forgot about it for a minute because I was busy wrestling my suitcase. I swear, that thing weighs more than I do. Getting it up those stairs was a cardio workout that'd make even a marathon runner weep.
- Afternoon: Oia. The Instagram picture capital of the world. And it's utterly breathtaking. The white-washed buildings clinging to the cliffs, the caldera, the… wait for it… sunset. I was expecting to be underwhelmed, you know? Overhyped tourist trap, etc. But nope. It genuinely took my breath away. The crowds, though… oh, the crowds. I swear I saw a woman elbow a small child for a prime photo spot. (Note to self: Invest in elbow pads for Day 2.)
- Evening: Dinner at a restaurant overlooking the caldera. Ordered the grilled octopus. Should've gone for the pizza. The octopus was… chewy. Like, jaw-aching chewy. The view, however, was divine. Worth the dental work. Drank too much local wine, ended up chatting with a couple from Iowa who kept asking what "caldera" actually was. Honestly, I started to question it myself eventually.
Day 2: Black Beach & the Donkey Dilemma
- Morning: Woke up with a slight headache and a burning desire for a strong coffee. Mary, bless her heart, had left a plate of pastries outside the door and it makes the world feel like a better place. Then, Black Beach. Perissa, to be precise. The black sand is bizarrely beautiful. Lay on a sunbed, read a book (tried to, anyway, mostly just people-watched), and got a serious tan – possibly too serious. My shoulders are screaming.
- Lunch: That Greek salad. Oh. My. God. The fresh tomatoes, the creamy feta, the olive oil… I could eat that every day. And I might just try.
- Afternoon: The Donkey ride from Fira, I'm going to be honest, it was less "charming local experience" and more "slightly terrifying, donkey-powered rollercoaster ride." The cobblestone paths are uneven, the donkeys are, let's say, "spirited," and the whole thing felt like a recipe for disaster. I ended up clutching the poor donkey for dear life, muttering prayers to any and all available gods. Still, the views were worth it. Kind of. Maybe.
- Evening: Found a tiny taverna in Fira. Amazing food, the owner was this old guy with a twinkle in his eye who kept pouring me shots of something called "Raki." Let's just say, I woke up with a vague recollection of singing karaoke in Greek and making friends with a very enthusiastic German Shepherd.
Day 3: Wine Tasting & Existential Dread (Because, You Know, Vacations)
- Morning: Hungover. Severely. Coffee, pastries, and a strong dose of self-loathing for the karaoke incident.
- Afternoon: Wine tasting! Visited a winery. Learned a lot about the volcanic soil and the unique grape varietals. Honestly, the wine was incredible. But what kept hitting me was the concept that I have to go back to reality. That's the only thing that I find a little bit concerning.
- Evening: Dinner at Mary Rooms. Mary had created a wonderful surprise dinner. The food, oh god. The food. This is the best meal. I went to meet the local people and some of them are really wonderful.
Day 4: Akrotiri (Ancient City) & That Darn Wind
- Morning: Attempted to visit Akrotiri. You guys, this place is amazing. I was astounded by the preservation.
- Afternoon: A beach day. Got absolutely sandblasted by the wind. Looked like a tumbleweed by the end of it. Sand in places I didn't even know existed. Ended the day at a different restaurant and had a delicious meal. I have really come to accept that not everyone likes the way I view the world, and I don't always have to agree with other people's opinions to like them and have an interesting conversation.
- Evening: Watched the sunset again. Maybe even more stunning the next day.
Day 5: Boat Trip & the Case of the Missing Sunglasses
- Morning: Booked a boat trip to the volcano and the hot springs. The volcano was surprisingly… volcanic. The water was warm, then cold, and the boat was crowded. At least I got to see a better view of the island.
- Afternoon: Disaster. Lost my favorite sunglasses.
- Evening: Drank a lot of wine, and ate some yummy food.
Day 6: Walking Tour & Souvenir Shopping
- Morning: Did a walking tour of Fira. Learned some cool facts about Santorini's history. Now I will know everything.
- Afternoon: Souvenir shopping. Found some cool things and some other things. Spent way too much money on things I'll probably never use. Regrets? Maybe a few.
- Evening: One last sunset from Oia. It honestly never gets old.
Day 7: Goodbye, Santorini (For Now, Anyway)
- Morning: Forced myself to pack. Said a tearful goodbye to Mary, who is basically my newest best friend.
- Afternoon: Flight home. My heart aches. I really enjoyed myself.
Quirks, Observations, and Things I Learned:
- The Wind: The wind in Santorini is a force of nature. Prepare to have your hair constantly in your face.
- Donkeys: Embrace it. You'll be a little scared, but It's unforgettable.
- Cats: There are cats everywhere. If you're not a cat person, be prepared to become one. They're adorable, fluffy, and will shamelessly beg for food.
- Greek Salad: Eat it. It's an absolute necessity. And it is delicious.
- Mary: Book Mary Rooms. Seriously. Mary is the best.
Final Thoughts:
Santorini is a place that will get under your skin. It's beautiful, it's chaotic, it's expensive, and it's utterly unforgettable. I left a little bit of my heart there, and I cannot wait to bring it back.
