Escape to Paradise: Tasmania Hotel Danang - Did It Really Live Up to the Hype? (A Rambling Review)
Alright, buckle up buttercups, because I just stumbled back from the supposed "Paradise" that is the Tasmania Hotel in Danang, Vietnam. And let me tell you, it's not all sunshine and rainbows. Okay, maybe some sunshine, and the rainbows were definitely present… at the bar. Seriously, this review is going to be as chaotic as my luggage after that airport transfer – brace yourselves.
First things first: the Accessibility game. Big points here, actually. They say they cater to disabled guests, and from what I saw, they actually do. Wheelchair accessible is a definite check. The elevators? Smooth sailing. Facilities for disabled guests are advertised, and seemed genuinely considered, with the entire property feeling relatively easy to navigate for folks with mobility issues. It's nice to see a hotel actually put its money where its mouth is regarding this stuff. Even the Elevator, though a bit slow at times (more on that later), was always available and well-maintained.
Now, let's dive into the stuff that really matters… starting with Cleanliness and Safety. Before you think I'm going full germaphobe, hear me out. Post-COVID, you notice these things. They had all the trappings: Anti-viral cleaning products, Daily disinfection in common areas, Hand sanitizer dispensers everywhere (seriously, I think they were trying to weaponize it). They claim to have Professional-grade sanitizing services and Rooms sanitized between stays. I hope so, because the place looked clean. The Staff trained in safety protocol seemed to be doing their best, always wearing their masks and being polite the whole time. Plus, the presence of a Doctor/nurse on call and a First aid kit is just reassuring. They even had Individually-wrapped food options, which I appreciated, let's be honest. The Safe dining setup gave me some peace of mind, though I'm not gonna lie, I was still triple-washing my hands. I almost went as far as requesting the Room sanitization opt-out available. I guess the fact that I didn't should say something about their game.
The real test? The Rooms. And here's where things get slightly messy. Yes, the Air conditioning blasted like a hurricane, which was much appreciated after a day in the Vietnamese sun. The Blackout curtains were, thankfully, blackout. Sleeping in was a breeze! And the Free Wi-Fi? Actually worked! Praise be! And there was even Internet [LAN] if you're old school. But wait… here's my first minor gripe. The Internet access – wireless was a little…spotty. My connection was fine, but when I was trying to video call home, the connection kept dropping out, which was a total bummer. But on a positive note, the Daily housekeeping and Daily housekeeping were amazing. The room was always spotless and my bed was always made.
The room itself? Pretty standard. They had all the usuals (Alarm clock, Bathtub, Bathrobes, Coffee/tea maker, Complimentary tea, Desk, Extra long bed, Free bottled water, Hair dryer, In-room safe box, Ironing facilities, Laptop workspace, Linens, Mini bar, Mirror, Non-smoking, Private bathroom, Reading light, Refrigerator, Satellite/cable channels, Seating area, Separate shower/bathtub, Shower, Slippers, Smoke detector, Socket near the bed, Sofa, Soundproofing, Telephone, Toiletries, Towels, Umbrella, Wake-up service, Wi-Fi [free], Window that opens). Nothing groundbreaking, but perfectly functional. I did love the Complimentary tea – perfect for sipping while gazing out the Window that opens (a simple pleasure that's often overlooked).
But here's a confession: I spent a lot of time in the Bathroom. Specifically, the Additional toilet. Why? Because the loo (in my non-expert opinion) was a bit clunky. I guess that's a minor detail, and it was clean. But it felt like a detail they could've put just a little more thought into.
Dining, drinking, and snacking… ah, the good stuff! This is where the Tasmania Hotel really tried to shine. Let's start with breakfast. Breakfast [buffet] was…well, it was breakfast. Asian breakfast options were plentiful, and they had a decent selection of Western breakfast options (including actual bacon!) But let's be honest, the lines during peak breakfast hours were a nightmare. And the Coffee in restaurant was… meh. Nothing to write home about. But, you know it's worth a shot. They offered Coffee/tea in restaurant, if coffee isn't your thing.
I did enjoy the Poolside bar. The drinks were surprisingly good. And the Happy hour? Delightful! They had a pretty decent selection of International cuisine in restaurant, and I definitely indulged in some… uh… research. They also had a Snack bar and Coffee shop, if you wanted something quickly. There was a Vegetarian restaurant, too. And all of the staff knew the ins and outs of each cuisine, which made it a pleasurable experience.
The Restaurants themselves were all pretty well-appointed. I'd recommend the one on the top floor for the view (more on that later). The A la carte in restaurant was a good option if you wanted something more tailored. And you could order Room service [24-hour], which was tempting after a long day of… well, doing nothing. I did like the Desserts in restaurant. They were on point!
However, I had a slightly unpleasant experience at lunch. I will admit, I was very tired when I went in. I had ordered a salad, and I was very particular about it. The server seemed to misunderstand me and brought me something that I didn't want. But, they quickly made me another salad, and I was happy with the new one.
Things to Do! Ways to Relax! This is where the Tasmania really leaned in.
Swimming pool and Swimming pool [outdoor]. The outdoor one was gorgeous. The water was perfectly refreshing, and the view? Spectacular. The Pool with view was really worth it! I spent hours just floating and staring. And the Spa was a real highlight. I indulged in a Body scrub and a Massage, and I'm pretty sure I achieved complete relaxation. It's a cliche, but the Spa/sauna and Steamroom were fantastic, too. The Foot bath was a nice touch. They also advertised a Sauna, which I didn't try, sadly. There’s even a Fitness center.
Now, the Fitness center itself was nothing to write home about. It's small. But it is there, which is more than some hotels offer.
The Terrace and the Proposal spot was another plus, for those who are looking for more romance.
Services and Conveniences: This is where the Tasmania Hotel just killed it.
The Air conditioning in public area? Fantastic. The Concierge was incredibly helpful – they booked tours, gave excellent recommendations, and even helped me figure out the local bus system. I needed to withdraw some cash, so I was happy the Cash withdrawal service was available! I took a look, and there was a Convenience store!
The Laundry service and Dry cleaning were efficient and affordable. The Luggage storage was useful. And the Cashless payment service was appreciated, especially since I was trying to minimize cash. In addition, there were Facilities for disabled guests.
The Airport transfer service was a lifesaver. The Taxi service was readily available. And they even had Valet parking and a Car park [free of charge]!
For the Kids:
I didn't bring any kids, but the Tasmania Hotel seemed pretty Family/child friendly. They offered Babysitting service and even had some Kids facilities.
Getting Around:
Danang is pretty easy to get around, but the hotel offered everything you could need. They even had Bicycle parking.
The Bottom Line (Finally!)
The Tasmania Hotel Danang? It's a mixed bag, folks. Parts of it are truly excellent – the pool, the spa, the cleanliness, the accessibility. Parts of it are… not so much. The minor irritations, like the spotty Wi-Fi or the so-so breakfast coffee are really small things that can be a distraction from the beauty of the hotel. My overall feeling? I don't know how many stars I'd give it. It's not a perfect paradise, but it's a good option. It certainly offers a chance to escape, and for the most part, it's a pleasant escape. Just be prepared for a few
Escape to Paradise: La Madonnina's Unforgettable Wellness Retreat in Cogne, ItalyAlright, buckle up buttercups and get ready for a Tasmanian-themed adventure… in Da Nang, Vietnam. Yes, you read that right. Hotel Danang, here we come. My sanity might be slightly compromised, but hey, who needs perfect when you've got experiences, right?
Day 1: Arrival and the Great Pho-nomenon (or, Why I Nearly Cried Over a Bowl of Noodles)
- 13:00: Touchdown at Da Nang International Airport. The humidity hits you like a warm, damp hug – a hug I'm not entirely sure I wanted, but okay, let's roll with it. Immigration? Surprisingly painless. My baggage? Surprisingly intact. Small victories, people, small victories.
- 14:00: Taxi ride to Hotel Danang. The driver, bless his heart, seems to think the horn is a suggestion rather than a warning. My inner peace is currently waging a battle with my outer anxiety. It's a tie.
- 15:00: Check-in. The staff are ridiculously polite, which is either genuine or they've perfected the art of faking it, and honestly, I’m leaning towards the former. The room has a view… of a street, mostly. But the air conditioning works, and that, my friends, is a win.
- 16:00: The quest for pho. I’d heard whispers of pho greatness, of a bowl that could move mountains, and I was determined to find it. Wandering the chaotic streets, dodging motorbikes that seem to defy all laws of physics, I stumble (literally) into a tiny, hole-in-the-wall place. It’s packed, smells divine, and the lady running the show has a smile that could melt glaciers.
- 17:00: The Pho Experience. Oh. My. GOD. The broth. The noodles. The herbs! It was… transcendent. Seriously, I think a tear or two might have escaped my eye. Don’t judge! It was a spiritual experience. I wanted to hug the chef, the waitress, and everyone in a ten-mile radius. Then I promptly spilled some pho on my shirt. Classic.
- 18:00: Strolling along My Khe Beach. The ocean doesn’t look like what I'm used to. Blue? Yes. Clear? Nope, more like milky. But the sand is soft, the breeze is warm, and I can still taste the pho in my mouth. It’s beautiful in its own slightly-murky way.
- 19:00: Dinner at a local restaurant. I'm feeling adventurous (aka starving), so I point randomly at something on the menu. Turns out to be… a mystery meat with questionable accompaniments. Let’s just say it was an… experience. And leave it at that.
Day 2: Marble Mountain Mayhem and the Dragon Bridge Drama
- 09:00: Breakfast buffet. Okay, the croissant might have been store-bought, but the fruit was fresh, the coffee strong, and I'm starting to feel like a human being again.
- 10:00: Marble Mountain. Oh, the stories! I was expecting majestic, zen-like quietude. I wasn't disappointed! But the climb! Let me tell you, the steps felt as steep as my hopes for a peaceful vacation, But the view was definitely worth the sweat, I swear!
- 12:00: Lunch in a tiny restaurant overlooking the mountains. The fried spring rolls were ridiculously good, and the ice-cold beer tasted like heaven.
- 14:00: Back in the hotel to escape from the sun. The heat is… intense.
- 16:00: Dragon Bridge. What a sight! This bridge truly is a marvel.
- 18:00: I think I'm going to try another restaurant that had food recommendations, I will let you know how it goes!
Day 3: Day trip to Golden Bridge and Ba Na Hills
- 07:00: Wake up!
- 08:00: Find some food for the day.
- 09:00: Begin the journey to Ba Na Hills.
- 10:00: Enjoy the Golden Bridge and the scenery, not sure how it'll be!
- 12:00: Find some food.
- 14:00: Explore the Ba Na Hills.
- 16:00: More exploring and finding out more about this place.
- 18:00: Head back to the hotel.
Day 4: Beach Bumming and Last-Minute Souvenirs (and the inevitable breakdown)
- 09:00: Beach time! This time, I'm prepared: sunscreen the size of my head, a hat that looks like a lampshade, and a book I'll probably only glance at.
- 10:00 - 15:00: Sun, sand, and the soothing sound of the waves. This is what vacation is all about, right? Well, except for the screaming children and the guy playing loud music next to me. Still, I'm trying to embrace the chaos.
- 15:00: The souvenir hunt begins. Oh, the pressure! I need to find gifts for everyone: my cat (a tiny Vietnamese hat?), my boss (a t-shirt that says "I Survived Dragon Bridge"), and my Aunt Mildred (a ceramic dragon, naturally). This is where the panic sets in. The choices are overwhelming, the prices are negotiable (apparently), and I'm starting to feel like I’m in a real-life episode of Hoarders.
- 17:00: Back at the hotel, I'm starting to question my life choices. Did I buy too much? Did I spend too little? Should I have taken that cooking class? Should I have learned more than five words of Vietnamese? My brain feels like a tangled ball of yarn.
- 18:00: Dinner. I'm too exhausted to go out, so I order room service. Comfort food is my only friend right now.
- 19:00: The inevitable breakdown. It hits me as I'm staring at the TV. Vietnam, with its beauty and its chaos, has been amazing, but I miss my own bed. I miss my cat. I miss the familiar. But, as I sit on my balcony with a glass of wine, watching the lights of Da Nang twinkle, I realize that even though I'm slightly emotionally traumatized, I would do it all again.
- 20:00: Packing. The moment of truth: How am I going to fit all this stuff into my suitcase?
Day 5: Departure and Reflections (or, The Pho Withdrawal Begins)
- 08:00: Last breakfast. I steal an extra banana. You never know when you might need it.
- 09:00: Check-out. The staff waves goodbye with those perfectly polite smiles. I'm pretty sure they're secretly judging my luggage situation.
- 10:00: Taxi to the airport. The horn-honking symphony continues.
- 12:00: Flight home. As the plane takes off, I look out the window at the receding coastline. I'm tired, slightly sunburnt, and my brain feels like it's running on fumes. But there's also a warmth inside me, a lingering taste of pho, and a strange, inexplicable longing for the chaos.
- The End - or, at least, the beginning of my next adventure!
Post-Trip Report:
- Number of times I almost got run over by a motorbike: A LOT.
- Best bowl of pho: Definitely the one on Day 1. It changed my life.
- Things I learned: Travel is messy, beautiful, and occasionally terrifying. And I need to learn some basic Vietnamese phrases. And maybe never wear white again.
So there you have it. My completely imperfect, hilariously messy, and utterly honest adventure in Da Nang. I encourage you to go and make your own, because let's face it - someone has to.
Jeju's Hidden Gem: ARA Palace No.302's Airport Cooking Secrets!Q: What exactly *is* this… "Escape to Paradise"?
A: Well, the brochure promised sun-drenched beaches, authentic Vietnamese culture, and… (glances around, slightly ashamed)... a "Tasmanian-themed" hotel in Danang. Honestly? I was sold at "beaches." The Tasmanian bit felt… intriguing. Turns out, "Tasmanian-themed" meant a few photos of the Tasmanian Devil, and a breakfast buffet with a slightly disturbing amount of (admittedly delicious) seafood. But, beaches people, BEACHES.
Q: Where is this magical place located?
A: Danang, Vietnam. Picture this: golden sands, turquoise water, and a heat that makes you seriously reconsider your fashion choices. Bring the lightest clothes you own. Seriously. I looked like a melted snowman by lunchtime, every single day.
Q: Is it actually a "getaway?" Like, do you *get away* from reality?
A: Oh, you *do*. Especially after that third cocktail by the pool. The staff are super friendly, they practically hand-deliver your Mai Tais. You could forget your woes, except for that persistent sunburn. Worth it, though. Definitely worth it.
Q: So, what was this "Tasmanian" influence, really?
A: Alright, I’m gonna level with you. The Tasmanian *thing* was… subtle. There was a small, somewhat-pixelated picture of a Tassie Devil in reception. The breakfast buffet, as mentioned, had a whole lotta seafood. The hotel itself? Mostly modern, clean, perfectly functional. I mean, the beds were comfy! The air conditioning worked *miraculously*, and that’s basically all I need. Don’t go expecting a whole lot of hobbit-themed decor.
Q: What's the vibe of the hotel? Romantic? Family-friendly? Party central?
A: Bit of a mixed bag, honestly. Mostly relaxed. Families seemed to be having a blast. But there were definitely some couples getting all mushy by the pool (cue the eye roll, I'm single, okay?). It wasn’t a wild, rave-till-dawn kind of place, thank goodness. More like, chill by the infinity pool, read a book, occasionally dodge kids splashing. Perfect, if you ask me.
Q: Any downsides? Be brutally honest.
A: Okay, alright. The internet was… spotty. And by spotty, I mean it would disappear at the most crucial moments. Like when I was desperately trying to upload a picture of my delicious Pho. Also, the gym… let's just say it was slightly under-equipped. I managed to find a few weights that looked promising, but I wasn't about to risk it. Gotta keep those bikini bods intact, you know?
Q: Is the beach actually nice? Because, you know, "paradise" implies… beach.
A: Nice? Are you kidding? It was *stunning*. Golden sand, crystal-clear water. I spent approximately 80% of my time there. Seriously. I even started my own little sandcastle empire (don’t judge my construction skills; I was relaxed). The waves are perfect for swimming, even for a nervous swimmer like me. Just be careful of the sun. It's a *beast*. Trust me, I learned the hard way.
Q: Were there beach vendors? Did they drive you crazy?
A: Yes, there were vendors. And yes, sometimes they drove me a little crazy. But honestly, they were mostly harmless. A polite "no thank you" usually sufficed. I did, however, buy a truly *amazing* pair of sunglasses from one. Best $5 I ever spent. Now *those* are a memory! A beautiful, shade-filled memory.
Q: Any tips for beach bliss?
A: Absolutely! First: Sunscreen. Apply it religiously. Second: Find a shady spot under an umbrella – the hotel had some options. Third: Order a cold drink (cocktail, juice, whatever floats your boat). Fourth: Just… relax. Breathe. Listen to the waves. Forget about your emails, your deadlines, your life back home. Just. Be. Present. It’s… magical.
Q: Let’s talk food. What was the breakfast buffet like?
A: Where do I even *begin*? Okay. So, it was a little bit seafood-heavy. Which, honestly, isn’t a bad thing. I'm a sucker for prawns, and they had an *abundance* There was also fresh fruit, noodles, various egg dishes... it was a culinary adventure every. Single. Morning. I may have gained a few pounds. Worth it. Every single bite. Seriously.
Q: What about outside the hotel? Any food recommendations?
A: Oh. My. Word. Danang's food scene is incredible. I’m still dreaming about the *banh mi* I devoured from a tiny little street stall. The *pho* was out of this world. And the fresh spring rolls... honestly, just thinking about them makes my mouth water. Get out there and explore! Don't be afraid of the little places, the ones that look a bit… well, dodgy. That's where the *real* magic happens. Trust me, and probably take some Pepto-Bismol with you, just in case. It's worth it.
Q: Drink recommendations? Because, you know… vacation.
A: Oh honey, you can't leave without trying a local beer. Bia Larue is a light, refreshing delight. The cocktails at the hotel bar were strong and delicious, especially by the pool. And, of course, the fresh fruit smoothies. They are *essential*. Mango, passionfruit, pineapple… Heaven in a glass. I had one every day. Or two. Or three... I lost count.
Q: Okay, okay, enough beach. What else is there to do?
A: Danang is a city of wonders! I went to the Marble Mountains – absolutely stunning views, but be warned, the stairs are a killer. I also took a day trip to Hoi An, the ancient town nearby. You HAVE to go there. It’s magical at night, all the lanterns and everything. There's My Khe Beach (the hotel's on it), but it's one of many glorious beaches, if that's your thing. The Dragon Bridge is a sight to behold, especially when it breathes fire on the weekend! I didn't get to see the fire-breathing, though. I may have been asleep after one too many cocktails.
Q: Any must-do excursions or tours?
A: Definitely, the day trip to Hoi An. And, if you're feeling adventurous, consider a motorbike tour of the areaGladstone's BEST Central Apartment Hotel: Unbeatable Views & Luxury!
