Escape to Paradise: Pedra da Laguna's Luxurious Buzios Getaway
Escape to Paradise: Pedra da Laguna's Luxurious Buzios Getaway
Escape to Paradise: Pedra da Laguna… Or a Semi-Paradise? My Buzios Rumble
Okay, so, Pedra da Laguna. The name alone whispers promises of pure bliss, right? Paradise found in Buzios, Brazil. I’m back, my skin’s a little browner, my bank account a little lighter, and my brain buzzing with opinions. Because listen, "paradise" is a loaded word. And Pedra da Laguna… well, it’s trying. Let's dive in, shall we? Buckle up, because this is going to be a messy, glorious rollercoaster of a review.
Accessibility: A Bit of a Climb, Literally & Figuratively (3/5 Stars)
Right off the bat, accessibility felt… Brazilian. Charming, but a little… challenging? While they say they have facilities for disabled guests, the reality felt more like "well, mostly." The uneven cobblestone streets of Buzios are a nightmare for wheelchairs anyway, but inside the hotel, the elevators were a godsend. However, navigating the sprawling property, with its multiple levels, felt like a cardio session. So, if you're seriously mobility-impaired, call ahead and be very specific about your needs.
Getting Around (4/5 Stars - Because Free Parking!)
This is where Pedra da Laguna actually scored points!
- Car Park [free of charge], Car park [on-site]: Huge win! Finding parking in Buzios is a contact sport. Having a free, on-site parking spot was a lifesaver.
- Airport transfer: Offered, but I didn’t use it. Probably easier than wrangling a taxi.
- Taxi service: Readily available, but pricey.
- Valet parking: Fancy! (But perhaps unnecessary since you have free parking.)
Cleanliness and Safety: Feeling Safe & Slightly Obsessed (5/5 Stars - Especially Post-Pandemic)
This is where Pedra da Laguna really shines. And it's HUGE for me after the, well, events of the last few years.
- Anti-viral cleaning products, Daily disinfection in common areas, Individually-wrapped food options, Physical distancing of at least 1 meter, Professional-grade sanitizing services, Room sanitization opt-out available, Rooms sanitized between stays, Safe dining setup… The list goes on. They mean business when they say they're taking hygiene seriously. I felt genuinely safe.
- Staff trained in safety protocol: You could see it! They're not just going through the motions.
- Hand sanitizer, Hand sanitizer: Everywhere! (Which is crucial for my incessant hand-sanitizer-obsessed inner monologue.)
- Smoke alarms, Fire extinguisher, CCTV in common areas, CCTV outside property, Security [24-hour] - Puts your mind at ease.
Dining, Drinking, & Snacking: From "Meh" to "Magnifico!" (3.5 / 5 Stars - The inconsistent journey)
Food, glorious food! This is where things got a bit… inconsistent.
- Restaurants: They have them! Multiple.
- Breakfast [buffet], Western breakfast, Asian breakfast, Buffet in restaurant: The breakfast buffet was solid. Plenty of options, fresh fruit, and a decent coffee. But…
- A la carte in restaurant: I tried the a la carte menu for dinner one night. Huge mistake. The service was slow, and the food was… well, forgettable. Bland. I could have made better pasta myself.
- Poolside bar, Bar: Good for a quick drink, especially with a view.
- Room service [24-hour]: Thank goodness for room service. It saved us.
- Coffee/tea in restaurant, Coffee shop: Coffee was decent, but nothing to write home about.
- Snack bar: Perfect for grabbing a quick bite.
- Alternative meal arrangement: An absolute must for me, as there was a salad that tasted, well, very very off. I asked for a different option and they provided it, immediately.
My Room: A Mixed Bag of Bliss & Bittersweet Moments (4/5 Stars)
The rooms… ah, the rooms!
- Air conditioning: Essential in the Buzios heat.
- Air conditioning in public area: The lobby was always refreshingly cool.
- Free Wi-Fi in all rooms!, Internet access – wireless: Worked flawlessly, which is always a relief.

- In-room safe box: Peace of mind.
- Mini bar, Bottle of water, Free bottled water: Essential.
- Non-smoking: Thank goodness.
- Private bathroom, Separate shower/bathtub, Toiletries: The bathroom was spacious and well-appointed.
- Refrigerator: Handy for keeping drinks cold.
- Seating area, Sofa: Useful.
- Wake-up service: Worked flawlessly.
- Interconnecting room(s) available: I didn't use these.
The Imperfection: A Story of the "Broken" Shower
One morning the water pressure in the shower went from a gentle rainforest mist to a sad, sputtering trickle. I called reception, fully prepared for a lengthy battle. To my surprise, within minutes, a super friendly maintenance guy was knocking on my door! (He seemed to have a magical toolbox.) He waltzed in, fiddled with some things, and voila! Full-on, invigorating shower pressure! It was a tiny hiccup, but the speed and efficiency of the fix totally impressed me. It wasn't perfect, but damn if they didn't try their best. It made me think of all the hotels that just… don't bother.
Things to Do & Ways to Relax: Spa Days & Poolside Dreams (4.5/5 Stars - pure indulgence!)
Okay, this is where Pedra da Laguna really shines. This is where the "paradise" feeling kicks in!
- Swimming pool, Swimming pool [outdoor], Pool with view: The outdoor pools are gorgeous. They blend seamlessly with the ocean vista. Perfect for a lazy afternoon.
- Spa, Spa/sauna, Sauna, Steamroom: My absolute favorite part. I had a body scrub and a massage. The body scrub was incredibly invigorating and the massage was, well, heavenly. I swear I floated out of the spa!
- Fitness center, Gym/fitness: Didn’t use it (because, cocktails!), but it looked well-equipped.
- Foot bath: Lovely.
- Body scrub, Body wrap, Massage: Do it. You won't regret it.
For the Kids: [I didn’t have any kids with me, but here are the options.]
- Babysitting service, Family/child friendly, Kids facilities, Kids meal: They seem to be well-equipped for families.
Services and Conveniences: Mostly Smooth Sailing (4/5 Stars)
- Cash withdrawal: Useful!
- Concierge, Doorman: Helpful.
- Contactless check-in/out: Efficient.
- Currency exchange: Handy.
- Daily housekeeping: Always appreciated. My room was spotless every day.
- Dry cleaning: (I didn't use it, but handy.)
- Elevator: A lifesaver.
- Gift/souvenir shop: Cute, but overpriced.
- Indoor venue for special events, Outdoor venue for special events: They appeared to have beautiful event spaces.
- Luggage storage: Convenient.
- Meeting/banquet facilities, Meetings, Seminars: They cater to business travelers too.
- Room service [24-hour]: A life-saver on more than one occasion.
- Safety deposit boxes: Always a sensible option.
- Terrace: Enjoyed my own terrace on the room, very nice!
The Bottom Line: Pedra da Laguna – Almost Paradise (4/5 Stars)
Would I go back? Absolutely. Pedra da Laguna has its quirks, sure (the inconsistent food, the "almost" accessibility) but the pros far outweigh the minor cons. The location, the views, the spa, the incredible service and the attention to cleanliness all create a genuinely relaxing and enjoyable experience. It’s not perfect, but it’s really good. Maybe not pure paradise, but close enough to make me want to return. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a sudden craving for a Brazilian cocktail and a massage…

This isn't your polished travel brochure, folks. This is the REAL DEAL.
A Buzios Beatdown: My Pedra da Laguna Reckoning (and Probably a Few Cocktails)
Day 1: Arrival & Immediate Bliss (Followed by Maybe a Slight Panic)
Morning (7:00 AM - The Great Jet Lag Awakening): Oh God. I’m awake. Why is it so…bright? Landed in Rio, dealt with the usual airport chaos (sweating, anxiety, the desperate need for a bathroom). Now, after way too many hours of travel, we're finally bouncing along in a shuttle towards Buzios. The countryside? Glorious. Rolling hills, vibrant green, and… oh, is that the ocean?! My brain is still half-asleep, but my eyeballs are doing their happy dance.
Mid-Morning (10:00 AM - Pedra da Laguna, Here We Come! Oh, And the Luggage…): Arrived at Pedra da Laguna. Okay, wow. Just… wow. The pictures didn't do it justice. Tropical gardens, turquoise pools, and a view that just… slaps you in the face with its beauty. Check-in was smooth (thank god), and the staff is ridiculously friendly. Now about the problem that my luggage has been lost, I'm sure it will arrive later, but I want to take a swim immediately and wear my new swimsuit.
Mid-day (12:00 PM - First Swim, First Tears of Joy (and Maybe a Bit of Sunburn)): Found the pool. Jumped in. The water is perfect. The sun is warm. I could cry. Actually, I might have. It’s a combination of jet lag, excitement, and the sheer beauty of this place. This is what paradise feels like, right? Sunscreen: applied. (Hopefully, enough. My past sunburns haunt me.) Note to self: find the pool bar immediately. This is going to be the best vacations ever.
Afternoon (3:00 PM - Exploring and the Dreaded Nap): Wandered around the hotel grounds. So many secret little corners and hidden pathways! Found a hammock. Briefly considered moving in. Forced myself to explore more. The beach is calling my name. Also, I may have accidentally scheduled a massage for later because, you know, self-care. (Which, I must admit, I need.)
Evening (6:00 PM - Dinner, Sunset, and the Looming Question of Mosquitoes): Dinner at the hotel restaurant. Food: outstanding. Cocktails: dangerously good. Watched the sunset paint the sky with fire and gold. Pure bliss. The only thing threatening my newfound serenity? The ever-present buzz of… mosquitoes. Bought some spray. Pray for me.
Night (9:00 PM - The Art of Doing Absolutely Nothing): After dinner, went to the room to enjoy the view, drink some water, and relax.
Day 2: Beach Day Blues (and Bliss!)
Morning (8:00 AM - Breakfast and the Great Beach Decision): Breakfast buffet: a masterpiece. Fresh fruit, pastries, juice… I may have overdone it. Now, the beach. Which one? There are like a million beaches. Decided to try "Ferradura" and walked for a long time there. It's pretty, lots of people.
Mid-day (12:00 AM - Sun, Sand, and Minor Disasters): Beach day! Ferradura, it is. The water is crystal clear, and the sun is blazing, I took the sunscreen, so I am well protected. Found a lounge chair (victory!). Got comfortable. Built a pathetic sandcastle. Got sand in my sandwich. Fell asleep and woke up with a slightly sunburned shoulder. Classic. Anyway, the beach vendors are relentless!
Afternoon (3:00 PM - The Massage That Saved My Soul): Back at the hotel for that massage. Seriously, the best thing that's happened to me all week. All the tension, the jet lag, the aforementioned sunburn… melted away. I swear, I almost fell asleep on the massage table. Went for a swim in the pool, and enjoyed it more than the day before.
Evening (7:00 PM - Exploring Buzios Town (and Judging the Locals)): Took a taxi into buzios town, which is charming. Walked along the Orla Bardot, the main pedestrian path. Checked out the shops. Ordered a caipirinha. People watched, and maybe, just maybe, judged some outfits. (I'm a terrible person. Sue me). Decided that later I will get some street food, and go back to the hotel, and enjoy the balcony with the view.
Day 3: The Great "Do Nothing" Decree (And the Unexpected Adventure)
- Morning (9:00 AM - The Art of Laziness): This is the day to do absolutely nothing. Actually, a little bit of that is a lie, I went to breakfast, because I am hungry.
- Mid-day (1:00 PM - Hotel's Restaurant and a Nice Bath): I had a lovely lunch at the restaurant. After that I felt like I need a bath to relax, and it was a wonderful experience.
- Afternoon (4:00 PM - Unexpected Excursion): I met a group of people at the hotel and they invited me for an excursion to some cliffs near the hotel. I was super excited about it. The experience was wonderful, a beautiful experience.
- Evening (7:00 PM - Dinner and the Sunset): After all of that, I was exhausted. The dinner was again amazing with the sunset.
Day 4 - Departure (with a Heavy Heart and a Sun-Kissed Glow)
- Morning (8:00 AM - Last Breakfast): One last glorious breakfast. Squeezed in one last swim in the pool.
- Afternoon (12:00 PM - Farewells): Time to pack. Time to check out. Time to say goodbye to paradise. (Sob).
- Departure (1:00 PM - Goodbye, Buzios): Heading back to Rio feeling utterly relaxed, slightly broke, and already planning my return. This was exactly what I needed. I will never forget it.
Post-Trip Ramblings:
- Things I Learned: 1. Pack more sunscreen. 2. Learn some basic Portuguese. 3. Mosquito spray is your best friend. 4. Embrace the mess. 5. Buzios, you beautiful, delicious, chaotic paradise, you.
- Would I Go Back? In a heartbeat. Seriously, book my flight. I’m ready. Now.
So there you have it. My Pedra da Laguna adventure. It wasn't perfect. It wasn't always glamorous. But it was real. It was beautiful. And it was, without a doubt, an experience I'll never forget. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to book my return trip. (And maybe buy a lifetime supply of sunscreen.)
